Back to ancient prints | Jean Barbault 1718-1762 |
||
The French artist Jean Barbault, after winning a scholarship at the Académie des Beaux-Arts, moved to Rome where he was to remain until his death. His activity as an etcher was much inspired by the Imperialistic current in Rome at the time, and the influence of Giovan Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) is particularly strong in his work. Both these artists also shared the same publisher - Jean Bouchard (18th century), one of the most important publisher of prints of his time. |
